Little stories from Journey to the West

In the distant ancient times, there was a mountain of flowers and fruits in the Oriental Aolai Kingdom. There was a fairy stone on the mountain that absorbed the essence of the sun and the moon and nurtured fairy cells. One day, it burst open and gave birth to a stone monkey. This stone monkey and a group of monkeys were summering in the mountains and accidentally discovered a waterfall flowing down from the top of the mountain. The stone monkey volunteered, got into the waterfall, and found that there was a spacious and quiet stone cave inside. The monkeys worshiped the stone monkey as their king and called him the Monkey King.

In order to live forever, the Monkey King traveled far away from Huaguo Mountain to seek immortality and visit the Tao. Under the guidance of a woodcutter, he came to Lingtai Fangcun Mountain. Patriarch Subhuti accepted him as his disciple and named him Sun Wukong. Patriarch Subhuti believed that he had spiritual teachings about Wukong's seventy-two transformations and a somersault cloud that could cover hundreds of thousands of miles. After completing his kung fu training, Sun Wukong returned to Huaguo Mountain. In order to train the monkeys, Wukong used magic to take the weapons of the Aolai Kingdom to the Huaguo Mountain. All the monsters and beasts in the mountain worshiped at Wukong's feet. Later, Wukong went to the Dragon Palace of the East China Sea to borrow treasures and obtained the Dinghai Divine Needle as a weapon, a Ruyi Golden Cudgel weighing 13,500 kilograms. Soon, he made a big fuss in the underworld and erased the names of all the monkeys in the book of life and death. The Dragon King of the East China Sea and the King of Hell summoned the Jade Emperor to subjugate the monster monkey.

The Jade Emperor adopted Taibai Jinxing's suggestion and summoned Sun Wukong to go to the Heavenly Palace to become Bi Mawen, who was responsible for raising horses. At that time, the Monkey King took office happily. Afterwards, Wukong found out that this was a low-ranking official position. Knowing that he had been fooled, he angrily returned to the Water Curtain Cave in Huaguo Mountain and set up the banner of "Monkey King". The Jade Emperor ordered King Li Tianwang and Prince Nezha to capture Wukong with their heavenly soldiers and generals, but he was defeated by Wukong. The Jade Emperor had no choice but to recognize the title of "Monkey King" and ordered Sun Wukong to go to the Heavenly Palace to manage the Peach Garden.

On the day of the Peach Festival, Sun Wukong drank all the fairy wine used in the banquet, broke into Taishang Laojun's alchemy room, ate all the golden elixir in the gourd, and then returned to the Water Curtain Cave. The Jade Emperor hated Sun Wukong for disrupting the Peach Fair, and ordered the Four Heavenly Kings, King Li of Tota and Prince Nezha to capture Wukong. 100,000 heavenly soldiers were defeated by Wukong. The Jade Emperor sent Erlang Shen to fight Sun Wukong again. After many battles, when Erlang Shen and Wukong were fighting, Taishang Laojun dropped the diamond circle and hit Wukong, and then captured him.

The Jade Emperor issued a decree to execute Sun Wukong, but because Wukong had eaten the elixir of the Supreme Laojun, he was chopped with knives and axes, and was struck by thunder and fire without any injuries. Taishang Laojun put Wukong into the Bagua furnace. After 49 days of refining, Taishang Laojun thought Wukong was dead. Unexpectedly, Wukong was not only alive, but also developed a pair of blazing eyes. Wukong jumped out of the alchemy furnace and caused chaos in the Heavenly Palace. The Jade Emperor was helpless and asked for help from the Tathagata of the West. After all, Sun Wukong was no match for the boundless Tathagata of Buddhism. He somersaulted all the way but couldn't get out of the Buddha's palm. The Tathagata trapped Sun Wukong under the Five Elements Mountain and suffered for 500 years.

Five hundred years later, it was the period of Emperor Taizong Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty. After the eminent monk Xuanzang was enlightened by Guanyin, he decided to go to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures. Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty personally lined up to see Xuanzang off, calling Xuanzang his imperial younger brother and giving him the title Tripitaka, and sent him to the outside of Chang'an City.

Tang Monk was on the road, hungry for food and thirsty for water. One day he rode a horse to Shuangcha Ridge at night and was captured alive by the Tiger Demon King's men. Taibai Jinxing came to the rescue and Tang Monk lost his face. A few days later we arrived at Liangjie Mountain. Tang Monk removed the seal and Sun Wukong collapsed out of the mountain. Tang Monk took Wukong as his disciple and called him a traveler, and together they traveled west to learn the scriptures.

A few months later, one day, the traveler killed six robbers who were blocking the road, and Tang Monk complained endlessly. The traveler was angry and left without saying goodbye. When Tang Monk was at his wits' end, Guanyin sent him a hat inlaid with gold flowers and asked Tang Monk to put it on the traveler, and dictated the tightening curse. When the traveler returned from playing with the Dragon King for a while, Tang Monk asked him to put on a flower hat. Unexpectedly, as soon as he put it on, a golden hoop was put on the traveler's head, and he couldn't take it off no matter what. Tang Monk recited the Tightening Mantra, which caused Monkey to have an unbearable headache. In this way, Monkey was restrained by Tang Monk, saying that he did not dare to disobey the teacher's words again.
