Many major events in Chinese history are named after the stems and branches of the years: Xinyou Coup (Qixiang Coup), Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War of 1898-1898, Wuxu Reform (Hundred Days Reform), Gengzi Indemnity, Xinchou Treaty, Guimao School System, Revolution of 1911, etc.
The reason is that the "AD Calendar" was not used at that time, and the "AD Calendar" did not come into use until the founding of the Republic of China on New Year's Day in 1912.
(1) Xinyou Coup - occurred in 1861, the year of Xinyou in the lunar calendar, when Empress Dowager Cixi seized power.

Method 2: Formula method:
1. The formula for calculating AD years is; "First subtract three from the AD years, and the remainder after division by 10 is the Heavenly Stem. Divide by 10 to get the remainder 8. Check the order of the heavenly stems (A, B, C, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui). To get "Xin", divide the base number 1908 by 12 exactly, and the remainder is 0 (which can be understood as 12 before 1). Then check the order of the earthly branches (Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai) got "Hai", so 1911 was the year of Xinhai.
2. To calculate the year in BC, "Add three to the year in BC first, and the remainder after dividing by 10 is the heavenly stem. The base number is divided by 12, and the remainder is the year of the earthly branches." When checking the order of stems and branches, just check from back to front. Taking 40 BC as an example, add 3 to the year to get 43 as the base number, divide by 10 to get the remainder 3, look up the heavenly stems as "Xin", then divide the base number by 12 to get the remainder 7, look up the earthly branches as "巳", so 40 BC should be the year of "Xinsi".
Among them, the conversion between the AD year and the stem and branch calendar is a difficult point. For example: What year in the stem and branch calendar is 2004 AD? Here is a relatively simple calculation method.
