Mount Wutai is the place with the highest concentration of temples in Shanxi. There is a saying that "you don't visit the temples when you return from Wutai". Temples were built in Mount Wutai since the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 68) and have a history of nearly two thousand years. There are 68 temples that are relatively complete and have certificates, making it the largest and most concentrated temple group in China. The famous ones are: Bodhisattva Peak, Xiantong Temple, Guanghua Temple, Wuye Temple (Ten Thousand Buddhas Pavilion), etc.
In addition, Datong’s Shangxia Huayan Temple, Pingyao Shuanglin Temple, Hunyuan Xuankong Temple, Jiaocheng Xuanzhong Temple, Yongji Pujiu Temple, etc. are all very famous.
