Although the city of Xi'an has always been called Chang'an in Chinese history, it is also the first truly meaningful ancient metropolis in Chinese history. According to the population size at that time, Chang'an can be said to be a super city comparable to today, and it was used as the capital as early as the period of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty. But later, after Chang'an could no longer be used as the capital, it was named Xi'an. In fact, from the name, we can see that he changed from a more political name to a local name.
In fact, this has a lot to do with Liu Bang's establishment of the Han Dynasty. At that time, Liu Bang originally wanted to make Xianyang his capital. Later, Zhang Liang said that this was not good and asked Liu Bang to choose Xianyang which was not far away. Chang'an serves as its capital. Because the country had gone through a long period of change at that time, Liu Bang believed that words like long-term peace and stability had a very good meaning. At that time, Chang'an City was located on the Guanzhong Plain south of the Wei River. It had a vast area and could be cultivated on a large scale. Coupled with the pleasant climate at that time, Chang'an became the first large-scale and populous city in history.
This has not changed in the later Tang Dynasty. Although there may have been some geographical relocation, and the city may have undergone some reconstruction or expansion, the name Chang'an has been retained. , until after Zhao Kuangyin established the Song Dynasty. At that time, Zhao Kuangyin also wanted to make Chang'an his capital, but the ecological environment around Chang'an was very bad at that time, and the living environment was also very bad. So he could only give up this city. It was also from here that Chang'an's status in Chinese history began to decline.
After the Yuan Dynasty, this place was given as a fief to the son of the original group at that time. However, he later rebelled, so this place became a place for criminals, and the name changed again and again. After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang conquered Shaanxi in the west. After Zhu Yuanzhang captured this place, he directly changed it to Xi'an with an order, symbolizing Zhu Yuanzhang's hope that the western part of the Ming Dynasty would be stable in the future. And Zhu Yuanzhang also wanted to sign Du Cheng back to Chang'an. After Prince Zhu Biao died of illness, Zhu Yuanzhang gave up this idea.
