Avoid similar names
Similar names are actually the phenomenon of duplication of names. This phenomenon has existed since ancient times. Xiao Jiang of the Southern Liang Dynasty and Yu Yin of the Ming Dynasty both wrote the "Record of Same Names in Ancient and Modern Times". The "Record of Nine Histories with Same Names" written by Wang Huizu of the Qing Dynasty has 76 volumes. For example, there are two Zeng Shen and two Mao Sui in the Spring and Autumn Period, two Han Xin in the early Han Dynasty, two Liu Xin in the late Han Dynasty, etc. There are even more people with the same name in different eras. In modern times, with the surge in population, naming methods have gradually become more uniform, and the phenomenon of duplicate names has only increased. According to statistics, there are more than 10,000 "Wang Suzhen" and more than 1,000 "Wang Suying" in Beijing, and there are more than 4,000 "Liu Shuzhen" in Shenyang. Even among celebrities, there are many with the same name. For example, there are two Li Zhun, one is a novelist and the other is a critic; there are two Chen Chong, one is an actress and the other is a male writer.
It is a pity that China has so many duplicate names, and it can easily cause confusion. For example, there are two Wang Jianxins in a certain unit, one male and one female. In order to distinguish them from each other, they were called King Jianxin and Queen Jianxin respectively. Usually calling someone by the wrong name is a trivial matter, but if the same name appears on a credit card or bankbook, it can easily lead to big trouble. There are also problems caused by duplicate names when it comes to notarization, legal documents, etc. For another example, the public security department wanted to hunt down a criminal suspect named "Zhang", but found about ten people with this name in the same city area, which delayed the time to solve the case. Therefore, it is no wonder that people call the phenomenon of duplicate names a "contemporary symptom" of the personal name system.
There are many reasons for the phenomenon of duplicate names, the main ones are as follows:
(1) Common surname. Especially the top-ranked surnames such as Wang, Li, Zhang, Liu, Chen, Yang, Zhao, Huang, Zhou, Wu, Xu, Sun, etc. have a large population, so it is easy to create duplicate names.
(2) Common words. Especially like red, Hong, Hong, Hong, Jun, Lan, Tao, Hua, Guo, Jie, Zhen, Ying, Gang, Ming, Xin, Xin, Xing, Sheng, Sheng, Ping, Ping, Ping, Jian, Jian Words such as "jun" and "jun" are used too much and too indiscriminately, which naturally increases the difficulty of combining names.
(3) Single name hotness. There are only four to five thousand commonly used Chinese characters. Even if the number is calculated as 5,000, take the surname Wang as an example. There are over 100 million people with the surname Wang. People with the surname Wang can only use a single name for 5,000 people, and the 5,001st person starts to have the same name. What's more, single names lack opportunities for combination adjustment, and a considerable number of Chinese characters are not suitable for single names. In this way, the probability of duplicate names will inevitably increase.
(4) Fan word. The word "Fan" has the function of indicating seniority, but it also narrows the range of choices, so it is easy to cause duplication of names.
(5) There is no way to check whether the name is the same, and the naming is blind. Most of the people who give names can only judge the name based on the scope of normal contact. In addition, the cultural literacy is not high and it is inevitable to fall into the stereotypes, so the phenomenon of duplication of names is unavoidable.
Beware of similarities and avoid duplication of names is a top priority for modern name makers. People are not completely helpless when it comes to the “contemporary disease” of having the same name. In order to avoid duplication of names, the following aspects should be taken:
(1) Improve the quality of the name giver and avoid falling into stereotypes.
(2) Establish public computer network services to prevent duplicate names.
(3) It is not advisable to overly pursue the use of fan characters that indicate seniority.
(4) It is crucial to promote double names and reduce single names. Especially for those with common surnames, we must be clearly aware of the dangers of the single-name craze. When considering double names, from the perspective of probability, 4000 to 5000 Chinese characters can have more than ten million combinations, which is much larger than the choice of single names. In this way, similarities can be prevented and duplicate names can be reduced.
