Tool tip stopping method

Knife tip stop method: The method of the knife tip stop method is to support one leg and pull the other leg back. The tip of the skate blade of the pulled leg is perpendicular to the ice surface, so that the blade tip moves on the ice surface. The sliding movement slowly stopped. This method has little practical value in high-speed sliding.

When participating in skating, many beginners report that they can master the normal forward and backward movements well, but they just don’t know how to stop. There are six commonly used stopping methods, and the tool tip stopping method is one of them.

Other stopping methods

1. The internal eight-shaped stopping method (also known as the plow-shaped stopping method): When stopping, the upper body leans forward slightly, the legs are slightly bent, and the knees are turned inward. Bring the two knives together and press the ice with the inner blades of the two knives. At this time, the upper body sits back and the center of gravity drops. The two knives slide forward and gradually separate, so that the force point is on the rear half of the skate. The harder you push, the faster you stop. This method is mostly used when stopping during mid-to-high speed rolling.

2. Knife heel stop method: one leg is supported and slid in, the other leg is straightened in front of the supporting leg. The skate blade is perpendicular to the straightened calf, and the blade is pressed with the heel to cut the ice. While facing forward, the supporting leg is slightly bent, the center of gravity is lowered, and you can stop. This stopping method is suitable for low-speed taxiing. It is rarely used when taxiing at high speed, and accidents may sometimes occur.

3. Internal and external blade stopping method: Put your legs together, use the two knives parallel to each other, turn your body 90 degrees to the left (right), sit back at the same time, lean your upper body forward, and lean your body to the left (right), use the right knife The inner blade, the outer blade of the left knife, or the outer blade of the left knife, and the inner blade of the right knife gradually press hard to cut the ice surface, and then stop. This stopping method can be used during high-speed rolling.

5. Stopping method with the outer edge of the right foot: This stopping method is more difficult to master, but it has a great advantage. In speed skating, only the right blade is the only one with the inner and outer edges of the two skates. The outer edge is not used during official rolling. Therefore, using the outer blade of the right knife to perform the stopping action not only exerts the function of the outer blade of the right knife, but also extends the service life of the other three blades.

The method of stopping with the outside edge of the right foot is to keep the body in an upright position while gliding, support it with the edge of the right foot, lift the left leg off the ice, and naturally relax it beside the right leg. The body and the skate of the right foot quickly turn to the right at the same time, sitting straight back, and the body tilts to the right.

6. Stopping method of shifting the inner blades of both feet: Use two knives to slide forward with forward blades, lift one foot at an angle of 45 degrees to the forward direction, and use the inner blade to land on the side and front of the skating foot to press the ice. Then quickly step forward with the other foot in the same way and use the inner edge to step on the ice. Use the same method with both feet to step on the ice two to three times in turn, and then you can stop. This method is mostly used when stopping during slow rolling.
