"The Number of Plum Blossoms" is one of the ancient Chinese divination methods. Today's Plum Blossom Heart Yi is another name for Plum Blossom Yi Shu. According to legend, it was written by Shao Yong, a Yi scholar in the Song Dynasty.
The origin of its name is said to be that one day, when Mr. Shao Kangjie entered the Plum Garden to enjoy the flowers, he accidentally saw two sparrows quarreling on the branches. Later, he saw the two sparrows suddenly fighting for a branch and falling to the ground. Mr. Shao saw that When you see this kind of phenomenon, you use your Heart Sutra to change the number, and think that it will not be occupied if it does not move, and it will not be occupied if it is not caused by things. Now it is strange to see two birds fighting for a branch and falling to the ground for no reason.
Because he felt something was wrong, he took it and said: Tomorrow, a neighbor girl will come to climb and break the plum blossoms. The gardener did not know and chased her away. The neighbor girl was frightened and fell from the plum tree, hurting her thigh. It turned out to be true.
Extended information
Primitive peoples lacked sufficient understanding of the development of things, so they relied on signs in nature to guide actions. However, natural signs were not common and had to be tested artificially, so the method of divination came into being.
Divination involves asking non-human spirits about the things they want to know based on the movements and changes in external things. The difference between it and prophecy is that there are usually ambiguous answers, leaving the fortune teller to find a reasonable explanation.
If we want to distinguish it from fortune-telling, divination has ritual or social characteristics and is usually related to religion; relatively speaking, fortune-telling is mostly a daily activity that serves individuals. Divination is often dismissed as nothing more than superstition. Advocates, however, will say there are many anecdotes to prove the effectiveness of divination.
Divination is a universal cultural phenomenon. Anthropologists have discovered that divination can be found in religions and cultures from ancient times to the 21st century.
However, the Christian Bible says that divination is strictly prohibited by God. Buddhism also has similar formulations to Christianity, but the wording is not as strict as the former; but in fact, divination in society under the guise of religion Divinations and divination-like activities are common.
