In the first year of Jiaqing (A.D. 1796), Qi Lin was punished by the Qing court for leaking secrets. Christians launched an uprising and promoted Wang as the leader, with 40,000 to 50,000 people moving to the border of Hubei and Henan. This class once advanced to Xiaogan, Hubei Province, threatening Wuchang. After going north, it entered Shaanxi via Henan. In the summer of the following year, he joined forces with various rebel armies in eastern Sichuan. Later, together with Yao Zhifu, he served as the leader of Huang Hao in Xiangyang and moved to Sichuan, Hubei and Shaanxi. In the spring of the third year of Jiaqing (A.D. 1798), Wang Qi led 20,000 people to ride north and attack Xi 'an. Frustrated by the advance troops, he entered Yunxi in the east, was surrounded by the Qing army, and jumped off a cliff and died.
