The Eight-character Spirit of Volunteers

The eight-character spirit of volunteers is dedication, mutual assistance, friendship and progress.

Volunteer spirit means a spirit of helping each other and asking for nothing in return. It advocates "helping each other, helping others to help themselves, selfless dedication, and asking for nothing in return". Volunteers rely on their own hands, brains, knowledge and love to carry out various voluntary service activities and help people in need free of charge.

In his speech at the launching ceremony of "200 1 International Year of Volunteers", former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan pointed out: "The core of voluntary service is the ideal of service, unity and the belief of making the world a better place together. In this sense, volunteering is the ultimate embodiment of the spirit of the United Nations. " This sentence points out the essence of voluntary service and expresses people's sincere praise for voluntary service. 1993, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League launched the China Youth Volunteer Action. 1994 12.5 Comrade Hu Jintao pointed out in his congratulatory letter to the inaugural meeting of chinese young volunteers association that "the spirit of young volunteers with dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress should be developed among the younger generation". At present, the volunteer spirit of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress" has been widely accepted by the society.
