How are Chinese dynasties named?

Xiayuan is the name of a tribe in the Yellow River Basin. Legend has it that they are descendants of the Yellow Emperor, and both Yu and his father Gun are the leaders of this tribe. In the 21st century BC, Yu's son Qi established the first slave dynasty in Chinese history, and named the dynasty after his own tribe. Shang was originally the name of a tribe in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. In the 16th century BC, Tang was the leader of this tribe. After Tang defeated Xia Jie, he established a powerful slave country, which was Shang. In the 14th century BC, King Pan Geng of Shang moved his capital to Yin, so later generations also called the Shang Dynasty the Yin Dynasty. Zhou was originally the name of a tribe in the Wei River Basin. After King Wu of Zhou destroyed the Shang Dynasty, he established a new dynasty with its capital in Haojing. This was Zhou. It seems that this name also comes from the name of the tribe where King Wu of Zhou originally belonged. In 770 BC, King Ping of Zhou moved his capital to Luoyi. Because Haojing is in the west and Luoyi is in the east, the period when the Zhou Dynasty made Haojing its capital was historically called the Western Zhou Dynasty; after the capital was moved to Luoyi, it was called the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. The Eastern Zhou Dynasty was divided into the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The Spring and Autumn Period was named after the "Spring and Autumn Annals", a chronicle of the State of Lu; the Warring States Period was named after the feudal princes who fought against each other for years. Han Liu Bang was named King of Han by Xiang Yu. In 202 BC, Liu Bang defeated Xiang Yu and unified China, and named the country "Han". Shu After Liu Bei occupied Sichuan, with the support of Zhuge Liang, he proclaimed himself emperor in Chengdu in 221 AD and named his country Han because he claimed to be a descendant of the Western Han Dynasty royal family and had always been determined to revive the Han Dynasty. Because Sichuan was called Shu in ancient times, the country it established was called Shu in history. Wu 222 AD. Sun Quan became king. The country name is Wu. The reason why he named his country Wu was that his ruling area was in the Jiangnan area on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. These places belonged to the State of Wu founded by King Fu Chai of Wu in ancient times. Jin In 265 AD, Sima Yi's grandson Sima Yan deposed the Wei Emperor and proclaimed himself emperor. He made his capital Luoyang and named his country the Jin Dynasty. Because Emperor Wei once made Sima Yan's father Sima Zhao the Duke of Jin. In 317, Sima Rui proclaimed himself emperor and established the capital in Jiankang. Since Jiankang was located to the east of Luoyang, the old capital of the Jin Dynasty, it was historically called the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The regime established by Sima Yan was called the Western Jin Dynasty in history. In 581 Sui Dynasty, Sui Duke Yang Jian forced Emperor Zhou Jing to abdicate, proclaimed himself emperor, and established the Sui Dynasty. The country's name was Sui, obviously because of the title of his title. Li Yuan of the Tang Dynasty was a nobleman of the Sui Dynasty. He was granted the title of Duke of Tang Dynasty and became the local governor of Taiyuan in the late Sui Dynasty. In 617, Li Yuan and his son rebelled against the Sui Dynasty in Jinyang. In 618, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty was killed by his generals. Li Yuan proclaimed himself emperor and established the Tang Dynasty. The country's name "Tang" comes from Li Yuan's title Tang Guogong. In 960 of the Song Dynasty, General Zhao Kuangyin of the Later Zhou Dynasty launched a mutiny in Chenqiaoyi, northeast of Kaifeng, established the Song Dynasty, and made Tokyo its capital. The reason why Zhao Kuangyin named his country "Song" was because Zhao Kuangyin had served as the military envoy to the German army in Songzhou.
