The 30th meeting of the Typhoon Committee of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) held in Hong Kong, China, from November 25 to December 1, 1997, decided that tropical cyclones in the northwest Pacific and the South China Sea should adopt an Asian style and decided to use the new naming method from January 1, 2000.
The new naming method is to formulate a naming list in advance, and then reuse it year after year in order. The naming list has 140 names, each named by the Asia-Pacific region of the World Meteorological Organization. Provided by 14 member countries and regions including Cambodia, China, North Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Micronesia, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam, each country or region provides 10 names.
These 140 names are divided into 10 groups, with 14 names in each group. It is arranged in alphabetical order according to the English name of each member country, and is recycled in order, that is, the tropical cyclone naming table in the northwest Pacific and the South China Sea. At the same time, the original tropical cyclone numbers are retained.

Typhoons are often named with "gentle" names in the hope that the damage caused by the typhoon will be less. However, the World Typhoon Committee has a rule that once a typhoon causes particularly large losses to life and property or loss of reputation.
Or it is retired based on the name itself, then it will permanently occupy this name, and the name will be deleted from the naming list. Other tropical cyclones will no longer use this name, that is, this name will be removed. The name is forever given to this tropical cyclone, and this is delisting.
