Westerners’ naming habits
Westerners pay great attention to the harmony between the given name and the family name. Regardless of which surname is chosen, parents choose a name for their children that matches it. There are so many factors they consider when choosing a name!
For example, the name should be easy to read. If a child arrives in a new environment and the teacher or classmates cannot pronounce his name correctly, both parties will be very embarrassed. So, try not to make it complicated if it can be simple.
Second, consider the syllable factor. In each name, if the surname is longer, the first name should be shorter; conversely, if the surname is shorter, the first name should be longer. Sometimes, in order to achieve the effect of repetition and emphasis, the number of syllables in the first name and last name should be the same.
Third, influenced by religious customs, Westerners’ names sometimes have religious overtones. They will go to a church or monastery to learn about naming. Or trace its origins in the Bible and quote classic names.
Fourth, choose new words or popular words. Some parents like to name their children after common names or popular words of the year.
