The Origin of Shantou Shanwei and Jixi Jidong

Tide means water, and Shantou is a ridge made of sand. As can be seen from the name, the Chaoshan area faces the sea with mountains at its back. Shantou is the ridge head and Shanwei is the ridge tail. Geographically, Chaoshan refers to the four cities of Shantou, Shanwei, Chaozhou and Jieyang on the Chaoshan Plain.

In the east of Jixi City, there is a mountain with the highest altitude in China called Jiguan Mountain (about 400 meters), which is called Jixi because it is located on the Shanxi side. In addition, there is a county called Jidong to the east of Jiguan Mountain.
