There is an old saying in rural areas that when naming a child, "A man will not be named after heaven, and a girl will not be named after immortality." Does it make sense?

Although naming a child is a very difficult task, in addition to having a meaningful and catchy name, it also needs to be consistent with the yin and yang characters. Look at which element of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth is missing in this child’s life, and his name still contains these elements.

When our children were born, when naming them, my grandma said that if it was a boy, the name should not have the word "天" in it, and if it was a girl, the word "Xian" should not be included in the name. Our surname is Xia, wouldn't it be good to name my son Xia? But I think Xia Tian's side is pretty good and very smooth. However, since grandma has a very stubborn personality, we had no choice but to change it.

Grandma’s statement is actually very superstitious, because when we name our children, we all give them beautiful meanings, and we hope that our children will develop in the direction of this name. But how a child develops is not determined by a name, but depends entirely on the guidance of the parent and his own efforts.

If taking the sky means that our expectations for our children are higher than the sky, acting against the sky will definitely not succeed. Girls have fairy names, and everyone hopes that their daughter will be as beautiful as a fairy. But if there is the word "fairy" in it, the beauty is even more beautiful than that of a fairy, and the gods in the sky will not do it.

When I heard grandma’s explanation, I thought it was really nonsense. So I feel that there is no sense in saying this at all. When naming a child, although one should listen to the opinions of some parents, one should also consider the current social culture.

We must abandon some traditional feudal ideas and try our best to give our children a nice and connotative name. Although it has some medicinal properties, in some traditional cultures it is not necessary at all.
