Writer Qiong Yao traveled to Beijing in 1997. When she passed by the "Princess Tomb", she was instantly interested in this peculiar place name. After talking with some friends, she learned that there is a legend about this place name: According to legend, during the Qianlong period, Qianlong accepted a folk woman as his adopted daughter and named her Gege.
After this Princess passed away, she was buried in the 'Princess Tomb' because she could not be buried in the royal ancestral grave. The inspiration for the story "Returning My Princess" came from Qiong Yao's sightseeing trip to the Princess Tomb in Beijing.
