The origin of the custom:
It originated from Sanshui District. Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a man named Yang Gong who had thirteen sons. Everyone said that he had a good life. Yang Gong also relied on his thirteen sons and often said to people: "I have thirteen sons." Even if I have a son, I am not afraid of the three disasters. Even if one of them dies every month of the year, I still have a son to die with.”
It’s just a coincidence that one day. There was a plague in 1998, and it happened to be a leap month in that year. Yang Gong's sons got the disease, and all of them died one after another. In the twelfth month of the year, all thirteen of Yang Gong's sons died, leaving only himself. His later life was very miserable. People say that everything that happened to Mr. Yang was due to the ugly words he said.
Later, this story spread more and more widely, and gradually people regarded the 13th day of the first lunar month, the 11th day of February, and the 9th day of March as very unlucky days. And he named it "Yang Gongji". In the past, people were not allowed to go out during these days. However, after several rounds of rumors and revisions, people now go out every day, and Yang Gongji's claims have slowly faded away.
