Griding means administratively dividing urban areas into "grids" one by one, making these grids the units through which the government manages grassroots society. In densely populated residential communities, jurisdictions are also divided into finer grids. In the bustling night market in Urumqi, stall owners here said that their business is so good because of meticulous and scientific "grid management". Urumqi has built more than 600 security booths and 756 patrol lines, forming a 24-hour "grid" patrol prevention and control mechanism. By the end of this year, the city will achieve full coverage of "grid-based" management.
