In the first year of Shangyuan of the Tang Dynasty, Fujian Jiedushi was established, with jurisdiction over the five prefectures of Fujian, Jian, Quan, Zhang and Ting. Fujian is named after the first two of the five states. Fujian Province was established in Ming Dynasty. Because it was the residence of the Minyue people in ancient times, it was called Min for short.
