X Japan is the originator of visual kei, and its style and music are deeply influenced by KISS. As early as 1978, TOSHI and YOSHIKI, a pair of good friends, had already formed the band NOISE, which performed at the school's cultural festival and LIVE HOUSE. In the summer of 1982, when HEAVY METAL and HARD ROCK had just entered Japan, they formed the Japanese band NOISE. The first HM/HD band was X JAPAN’s predecessor. In February 1985, they finally released their first self-produced single (SINGLE) "I'LL KILL YOU" (DADA Records) (indie). In February 1987, TAIJI (BASS), PATA (GUITAR) and HIDE (GUITAR) joined, so X, who had been in a state of team member changes for a long time, finally established a fixed lineup of Toshi, Taiji, Pata, hide & Yoshiki. At 8:52 AM on May 2, 1998, HIDE, formerly known as Hideto Matsumoto, hanged himself at home at the age of 32. The last hope of X JAPAN’s legendary 2000 reorganization plan was shattered.
