Why the name "Qiqihar"?

The meaning of Qiqihar - the Eastern Sun God comes from the meaning of "Khitan" in the Donghu language family.

Russian calls China китай, which is Khitan.

Qiqihar means "grassland" in Daur language. The word Qiqihar is actually the Daur phonetic notation using Chinese characters. It was originally also called "Qiqihar". Qiqihar and Qiqahari are the transliterations of Khitan, and Qiqihar is Khitan.

The Russian word китай and the Chinese pinyin QIQIHAER of Qiqihar are both Khitan.

The Nenjiang River Basin has been a place where northern nomads roam since ancient times. Qiqihar has always been called "grassland" or natural pasture.

Another way of saying it:

Qiqihar is not Chinese, so what does it mean?

When the film crew of "Traveling China" first arrived in Qiqihar, they heard such a story. The narrator of the story was still in the Qiqihar Acrobatic Troupe at the time, and they were invited to perform in Beijing.

Not only did many Beijing residents not understand Qiqihar at that time, but even now, many Qiqihar people don’t know what the name of their city means.

The Daur people originally lived in the Jingqili River Basin north of Heilongjiang. Due to the intrusion by the Russian Empire, they were forced to migrate southward in the early 17th century. When they came to the Nenjiang River Basin at the eastern foot of the Daxingan Mountains, they saw the rich water and grass here and settled down. They named their new home Qiqihar.

It turns out that Qiqihar originally meant a pasture in the mountains, but now it is extended to a grassland with rich water and grass.

When the exhausted Daur people drove their cattle and sheep, men rode horses, and the elderly and children rode Lele carts, and arrived at both sides of the Nen River after months of arduous trek, it should be the lush pasture. In spring and summer, when they see the endless prairie, they will shout excitedly: Qiqihar (Japan)! Qiqihar (Japan)! From then on, this land got a name that is still used today.
