Borobudur Pagoda is a huge Mahayana Buddhist site in the form of a pyramidal mandala located in Borobudur Village, Magireng, in the central part of the Indonesian island of Wa.
In Java in the eighth century AD, the rulers of the powerful Chariente (King of the Mountains) dynasty converted to Mahayana Buddhism. Using the most advanced technology of the time, they built this well-designed stone pagoda around 800 AD.
The pagoda is made of andesite and basalt from the nearby river. The architecture of the tower adopts a combination of Mahayana and Tantric teachings, and the entire building is like a huge mandala (mandala). During its construction, nearly 2.25 million rocks were used. The bottom layer was paved with boulders each weighing about 1 ton, with a total volume of 55,000 cubic meters. The base of the tower is square, with a circumference of about 120 meters and a total area of ??nearly 1.5 hectares.
