Now there are famous bridges in Guangzhou

Someone asked me to talk about the bridge on the Pearl River in Guangzhou so that he could understand it and also let me review it. It’s a good reason! For such a good young man who is eager to learn, motivated, and resourceful, even if it is a cliché, it has to go on.

It can be said that there are more bridges on the Pearl River in Guangzhou, because Guangzhou city is divided into two halves by the Pearl River. Although the urban area south of the Pearl River was not large in the early days, with the changes of the times, the north and south have begun to "Expanding gifts in separate chambers" and realizing "dialogue". Therefore, since the reform and opening up, the construction speed of bridges on the Pearl River can be said to have kept pace with the times at a modern speed, from two in the early days to nearly ten now, with various forms and huge uses. As for the bridges not on the Pearl River, there are even more. In the past, there was only one dry bridge called "Rainbow Bridge" in Guangzhou, but now the viaducts that are dry bridges are much longer than the bridges on the Pearl River. I once wrote a sentence: "In In Guangzhou, the bridge is the road."

First of all, let’s talk about the names of the bridges on the Pearl River. I always think that the Guangzhou government is too restrictive when naming the bridges on the Pearl River. This is also in line with the poetic thinking and image thinking in Guangzhou’s local culture. The relative lack is relevant, but it also shows the more pragmatic and calm side of the local culture. Most of the bridge names in Guangzhou are just place names. For example, the one built on Haizhu Square (formerly Haizhu Stone) is called Haizhu Bridge, the one built on Renmin Road is called Renmin Bridge, and the one built on Haiyin is called Haiyin Bridge. , the one built on Guangzhou Avenue is called Guangzhou Bridge (also called the Third Bridge because it is the third bridge on the Pearl River in Guangzhou City), the one built on Baihedong is called Hedong Bridge, and the one built on Jiefang Road is called Jiefang Bridge. . . . . .

All in all, these bridge names lack creativity, but they can make it easy for people to judge from the bridge names the location where the two ends of the bridge are connected. Whether it is good or bad cannot be commented. I think, it It also represents the character of Guangzhou.

I once talked about this issue on the bus to Wuyuan. I compared the differences in naming habits between Wuyuan and Guangzhou people. I remember that I listed many places and bridge names in Wuyuan, such as Ziyang, Sixi, Jiangwan, Lixi, Zheyuan, Hongguan, etc., all have a lot of charm of traditional Chinese culture, because they are also the places with the highest concentration of Chinese scholars and have a deep cultural background, which also forms the first priority in everything. Cultural habits, there are too many poetic life elements in their thinking, so it is inevitable to have good names there, which is also a reflection of local culture. But in terms of being realistic and enterprising, Guangzhou people who have experienced the wave of reform and opening up naturally seem more comfortable.

The Zhuhai Bridge is the oldest bridge on the Pearl River and is also the earliest bridge on the Pearl River. The "Haizhu Bridge" was first built in 1929. An American company was responsible for the design and construction. It was not completed until February 1933. The progress of the project that year was also slow enough. This was the only openable iron bridge in China at that time. When a ship passed by, the central part of the bridge could be pulled up to both sides to let the ship pass and then put back down. I think there were very few large ships passing the Pearl River at that time. , most of them are just small boats, and they don’t need to lift the bridge often. If this bridge were used in the current state of the Pearl River, it would probably be impossible to put it down once it was pulled up.

When the Kuomintang retreated in 1949, they made a plan to blow up the Haizhu Bridge and the power plant next to the bridge. What they wanted the Communist Party to get was a building with poor traffic and dark lights. "Dead City", due to the efforts of the underground party, the power plant was protected, but the Haizhu Bridge was still bombed.

The local Kuomintang company commander was responsible for blasting the bridge. When he was loading explosives and preparing to drive away the people on the bridge, the People's Liberation Army had already reached the vicinity of Yuexiu Mountain. In desperation, the Kuomintang company commander was on the boat at the pier at the entrance. The explosion was hastily detonated, and the Haizhu Bridge was instantly reduced to ashes. Many people passing by the bridge were killed and injured, and all the glass windows of residential buildings near the bridge were shattered.

The current bridge was rebuilt after liberation and widened again in 1974. Despite the hardships, Haizhu Bridge is still the oldest bridge on the Pearl River in Guangzhou.

On May Day in 1967, the People's Bridge was officially opened to traffic. It was the second bridge on the Pearl River in Guangzhou. Due to the imminent "violent struggle" between the two major mass organizations in Guangzhou at that time, the opening ceremony was not held.

It can be said that this bridge is a "product of the Cultural Revolution". In the years when struggle was all about production, I think it is a miracle that Guangzhou was able to build such a bridge.

The Guangzhou Bridge was completed and opened to traffic in May 1985. A bridge spanning the main and auxiliary channels of the Pearl River and Ersha Island, connecting the north and south sections of Guangzhou Avenue. There is a ring road on the east side of the north end connected to Ersha Island. Because it is the third bridge on the Pearl River, the locals call it "Three Bridges" for short.

The Pearl River Bridge is a dual-purpose railway and highway bridge. It is the main exit from Guangzhou to the west. It was built in 1958 and opened to traffic in 1960. The bridge is divided into two parts, the East Bridge and the West Bridge, with a double-track railway line in the middle and highway lines on both sides. The Pearl River Bridge is majestic and was once the symbol of "Double Bridges in Misty Rain", one of the eight scenic spots in Guangzhou. The bridge was built earlier than the "Three Bridges" and the People's Bridge. Why was it not included? In fact, it was because the location of the bridge was still a suburb at the time, so Guangzhou people did not regard it as an urban bridge.

The Haiyin Bridge was opened to traffic in 1986. It is the first twin-tower single-cable cable-stayed bridge in Guangzhou. Its structure is similar to the familiar Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA. The two towers are like two tall bridges. The shadow of the sail has a rich meaning. Under the night, among the lights, the beautiful scenery of Haiyin Bridge adds brilliance to the Pearl River.

In less than a month from the end of 1997 to the beginning of 1998, Guangzhou successively opened the Jiefang Bridge of Jiangwan Bridge to traffic, extending the Donghaoyong Viaduct and Jiefang Road to Jiangnan. Half a year later, the Hedong Bridge was also opened to traffic, and the bridge construction project in Guangzhou City came to an end.

There are seven bridges in Guangzhou city over the Pearl River from east to west (Pearl River Bridge not included), in order:

1. Guangzhou Bridge

2. Haiyin Bridge

3. Jiangwan Bridge

4. Haizhu Bridge

5. Jiefang Bridge

6. People's Bridge

7. Hedong Bridge

(Note: Pearl River Bridge, Luoxi Bridge, Dongpu Bridge, Pazhou Bridge, Huanan Bridge, and Dongjiang Bridge on the edge of Guangzhou City , Panyu Bridge are not included in this list, and the Pearl River is a section with lights turned on at night, which is basically within the scope of the above-mentioned seven bridges)

There is a saying: Shandong's roads, Guangzhou's bridges .

It can be seen that the bridges in Guangzhou are famous. When we calm down, walk on both sides of the Pearl River in the night and cool breeze, and enjoy the beautiful night scenery, we will find that the seven bridges are very beautiful. Beautifully connecting the two sides of the Pearl River. At the same time, we will also find that those seven bridges smoothly connect our lives with the rhythm of the city!
