The Madrid Zoo in Spain named the newborn giant panda "Chulina" on the 12th, which means cute girl and also refers to bamboo. The name commemorates Chulin, the first panda born at the zoo 34 years ago.
The nearly five-month-old "Zhu Lina" is a female giant panda born through natural conception and the fifth panda born at the Madrid Zoo. Its parents are two adult giant pandas that the Madrid Zoo rented from the Chinese government in 2007.
Chinese Ambassador to Spain Lu Fan said on the 12th that "Zhu Lina" is the result of the friendship between China and Spain and the research on giant pandas.
According to reports, giant pandas are considered an endangered animal, and there are now 1,864 living in their natural habitat in China.
