Why is Ginkgo Tree also called Gongsun Shu?

Ginkgo biloba, also known as "Gongsun Tree", means that ginkgo trees grow slowly, but have a long life. "Grandpa plants trees, and grandchildren get fruit." So Ginkgo biloba is also called Gongsun Shu.

After the Ming Dynasty, people called Ginkgo biloba "Gongsun Tree" because of its slow growth. "Gongsun Tree" first appeared in Zhou Wenhua's "History of Runan Nursery", saying: "Sow in public, and your grandchildren will get food", which means that you planted ginkgo when you were a teenager until you became a grandfather, bearing fruit and eating ginkgo.

Extended data:

Tong Pingya's "Ginkgo Tale" said: "Legend has it that Xuanyuan, the ancestor of the Chinese nation, had a compound surname, Gongsun. The longevity of Ginkgo biloba can be compared with the recorded history of China, so it is called' Gongsun Tree'. This name refers to ginkgo tree in particular. It is classified as a slow-growing tree species. It usually takes 20 years to cut the seeds and bear fruit, and produce ginkgo. It takes 30 years to enter the high-yield period.

Ginkgo biloba is a plant left over from the Quaternary Ice Age/kloc-0.70 billion years ago, so it is also called a precious "living fossil". Ginkgo biloba has a history of 1200 years in various parts of China, such as University Hall and Tanzhe Temple.
